Udupi, May 8: The Udupi District Youth Congress Committee staged a protest condemning the anti-people policy of the central government for increasing cooking gas prices on May 8 near Brahmagiri Circle, Udupi.
Addressing the protest, Udupi District Congress Committee president Ashok Kumar Kodavoor said that the hike in commercial LPG cylinder prices has caused difficulties not only for hotel owners but also for the common public. He alleged that the BJP government, which came to power through false promises and deceptive policies, began burdening people with price hikes soon after assuming office.

President of the Coastal Development Authority M A Gaffoor said that the BJP-led central government has not only targeted small business owners but is also pushing ordinary people toward poverty. He claimed that attempts are being made to impose an 'undeclared curfew' in the country and urged the government to immediately reconsider the price hike. He further stated that many hotels have shut down due to the increase in commercial cylinder prices, leaving several hotel workers unemployed, and demanded an immediate solution to the issue. He added that the Congress party is carrying out protests and awareness campaigns to draw public attention to the price rise imposed by the central government.
Among those present at the protest were Udupi District Congress Campaign Committee president Alevoor Harish Kini, Udupi District Youth Congress president Krishna Shetty Bajagoli, Udupi District Mahila Congress president Jyothi Hebbar, Congress leaders Kishan Hegde Kolkebail, Hariprasad Rai, Shabarish Suvarna, Surayya Anjum, Sajjan Shetty, Naveen Salian, Akshath Pai and others.
