Mangaluru, May 12: Indiana Hospital and Heart Institute successfully conducted a prestigious two-day Live TAVI Workshop on May 9 and 10 (Saturday and Sunday), showcasing advanced techniques in Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI/TAVR), one of the most sophisticated minimally invasive procedures for aortic valve replacement.
The workshop was held under the leadership of renowned interventional cardiologist Dr Yusuf Kumble, managing director and chief interventional cardiologist of Indiana Hospital and Heart Institute, who served as the course director for the programme.

During the workshop, Dr Yusuf Kumble demonstrated several complex and high-risk TAVI procedures involving a wide spectrum of challenging clinical scenarios. The live cases included patients with bicuspid aortic valves, severely calcified aortic valves, complex anatomies, and valve-in-valve procedures.
Over the course of two days, participants were given comprehensive exposure to advanced TAVI techniques through real-time live demonstrations and academic discussions.
Cardiologists from various regions of Karnataka and Kerala actively participated in the workshop, making it one of the most significant educational cardiac events conducted in the region.
The live workshop was supported by Dr Sandhya Rani PN, Dr Karthikeyan T and Dr Akash G Nair, while Dr K Subramanyam and Dr Syed Mohammed coordinated various academic sessions and course activities.
In addition to the live procedures, a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme covering various contemporary topics in cardiology was also conducted. Experts discussed advances in structural heart disease interventions, valve therapies, and modern cardiology practices through scientific presentations and interactive sessions.
A special dinner-meet and TAVI symposium was also organized during the workshop. During the session, senior-most cardiologist of Mangalore, Dr R L Kamath remarked that Indiana Hospital and Heart Institute has become a beacon of excellence in advanced cardiac technology and highly skilled heart care management in Karnataka.
Dr R L Kamath stated that many patients who were previously being referred for open heart surgery are now coming to Indiana Hospital, Mangaluru, to undergo advanced interventional cardiac procedures that help them avoid major surgery while effectively treating their heart ailments. He appreciated the dedicated team of doctors led by Dr Yusuf Kumble for successfully performing these complex interventions.
He further noted that patients from various parts of Karnataka and Kerala are increasingly being referred to Indiana Hospital for advanced structural heart treatments and expressed pride in the achievements brought to Mangalore through the leadership of Dr Yusuf Kumble and his team.
This is considered the first high-caliber live TAVI workshop of its kind conducted in the coastal Karnataka and North Malabar region. Through this initiative, Indiana Hospital and Heart Institute once again demonstrated its commitment to delivering world-class cardiac care, adopting cutting-edge cardiac technologies, and training young cardiologists in the region.
