Lucknow, May 12: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday strongly criticised Samajwadi Party MP Ajendra Singh Lodhi over his controversial remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling the comments indecent and harmful to democratic values.

Reacting through social media, the chief minister said the language used by the Mahoba-Hamirpur-Teendwari Lok Sabha MP against the Prime Minister was “unparliamentary, unacceptable and unforgivable”.

He stated that the remarks not only crossed the boundaries of political decorum but also reflected “political misconduct, ideological bankruptcy, and disrespect towards the dignity of public life”.

CM Yogi further said that insulting the Prime Minister amounted to disrespecting the mandate and trust of 145 crore Indians, adding that such behaviour weakens democratic traditions and public discourse.

His response came shortly after Uttar Pradesh Police registered an FIR against the SP MP over allegedly objectionable and defamatory statements directed at the Prime Minister.

“The people of the country will give a fitting reply to such undignified conduct at the appropriate time,” the Chief Minister said.

The controversy erupted during a protest led by the Samajwadi Party leader and his supporters outside the District Collector’s office, where they demonstrated against issues including electricity shortages, power cuts, and drinking water problems.

During the protest, SP workers allegedly attempted to gherao the Collectorate while raising slogans against the government. According to reports, the MP made personalised remarks against the Prime Minister during the demonstration, leading to strong objections from BJP workers.

Based on a complaint filed by BJP members, police registered a case against the legislator.

Despite the legal action, Ajendra Singh Lodhi maintained that his protest against what he termed government “misgovernance” would continue. He said he would keep raising public issues without yielding to pressure from the administration.
