Srinagar, Mar 13 (IANS): A panel probing the 2011 death of National Conference (NC) worker Haji Yusuf Monday allowed a plea by his relatives to visit Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's house, a lawyer said here.

Lawyer Mushtaq Ahmad Dar told reporters that the Justice (retired) H.S. Bedi commission "today allowed our application seeking permission to visit the official residence of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the headquarters of the state crime branch and the police hospital in Srinagar".

"We shall be visiting the residence of the chief minister on March 13, the crime branch headquarters on March 14 and the police hospital on March 19," he said.

The one-man commission of inquiry headed by a retired Supreme Court judge was constituted by the government Nov 19, 2011 following the mysterious death of Yusuf Sep 30, 2011.

Yusuf had been called to the Gupkar Road residence of the chief minister Sep 29, 2011 after which he was handed over to the sleuths of the crime branch the same evening.

He died the next day in the police hospital in Srinagar while in the custody of the crime branch.

While relatives and the opposition People's Democratic Party alleged Yusuf had been tortured to death, an autopsy revealed the the ruling party's worker died of cardiac failure.

Two other NC workers, Abdul Salam Rishi and Muhammad Yusuf Bhat, had alleged before the chief minister that Haji Yusuf had taken huge bribes from them for getting one a legislator's job and the other a ministerial berth in the state.
