Margao, May 26: Scrap yards, industrial estates, railway stations and bus stands have come under heightened surveillance in South Goa district following reports of foreign nationals arriving in the state, police said on Monday.

South Goa District Police Chief Santosh Desai said police officials, including sub-divisional officers and station in-charges, have been directed to intensify patrolling and monitor the movement of suspicious individuals across jurisdictions.

He said the drive will primarily focus on railway stations and bus stands, which are considered key entry points for outsiders entering the state.

“The drive to check the antecedents of those working at scrap yards and industrial estates has begun. Special attention is being given to railway stations and bus stands. Goa Police has also deployed personnel to travel on South Western Railway trains running from Collem to Vasco to monitor suspicious movement,” he said.

Desai added that the operation has been launched following instructions from senior police officials and will continue across all police station limits in a sustained manner.

Officials said the intensified surveillance is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen internal security checks and track irregular movement of individuals entering the coastal state through multiple transport routes.
