Panaji, May 26: Chicalim Parish priest and noted social activist Fr Bolmax Pereira passed away early Tuesday morning, two days after being admitted to the Goa Medical College following a cardiac arrest.

According to reports, Fr Bolmax breathed his last at around 4.30 am while undergoing treatment.

Leaders from the Indian National Congress in Goa expressed condolences over his demise, while the Comunidade of Parra also mourned his passing, describing him as a committed servant of society and a fearless voice for the people.

In a statement, the Comunidade said Fr Bolmax lived a life rooted in courage, humility and faith, and would be remembered for his dedication to Goa and its communities.

“He stood firm during difficult times and inspired countless people through his strength, devotion and service,” the statement noted.

The organisation also extended sympathies to his family members, religious fraternity and all those whose lives were touched by his work and leadership.

Fr Bolmax had reportedly collapsed at Vasco Railway Station on the morning of May 22 while preparing to travel to Collem for a picnic. He was first taken to Daffodils Hospital near Tilak Maidan, where doctors managed to revive him before shifting him to Goa Medical College for specialised treatment.

Doctors had initially observed signs of improvement on Saturday evening. However, his condition deteriorated after he suffered another major cardiac arrest around 10.20 pm, following which he was placed on life support.

Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane had visited the hospital during his treatment and assured that every possible medical effort was being made for his recovery.

Despite intensive treatment and medical support, Fr Bolmax later succumbed while undergoing care at the hospital.

I never met Fr. Bolmax but I heard him and his powerful message of justice and peace. He loved Goa and was pained by its decay due to reckless and selfish explication of its natural resources. God grant him everlasting peace and may his dreams for a better Goa be realized soon.
