New Delhi, May 27: A minor boy has been apprehended for allegedly shooting a 17-year-old student following an argument at a restaurant in southeast Delhi’s Amar Colony area, police said on Wednesday.

According to police, the incident occurred on Tuesday evening when the teenager had gone to the eatery with his friends, including a girl.

Investigators said a group of boys walked past their table during which one of them allegedly brushed against the victim’s chair. The teenager reportedly objected and asked the youth to walk properly, leading to a brief altercation.

Police said the group initially left the restaurant but returned nearly five minutes later. One of the boys then allegedly opened fire at the teenager before fleeing from the spot.

The injured student was first taken to Moolchand Hospital and later shifted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where he remains in critical condition and is currently on ventilator support.

Police said information about the shooting was received at around 7.54 pm on Tuesday.

The juvenile accused was apprehended during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, officials said.

According to police, the victim’s father runs a laundry business in the Chattarpur Enclave area.

Several police teams were formed to identify and trace those involved in the incident. CCTV footage from the restaurant and nearby locations is being examined to establish the sequence of events and track the escape route of the assailants.

The investigation is currently underway.
