Beltangady: Naxal Encounter - Varsity Student Vittal Produced in Court

Daijiworld Media Network - Beltangady (RD)

Beltangady, Mar 14: 23-year-old Vittal, a native of Manila-Kutlur near here, and a student of Mangalore University, who was arrested for allegedly supporting Naxals, was produced before the court here on Wednesday March 14. The court extended his police custody for five more days.

Vittal was arrested by the police on March 2 to investigate his role in Naxal activities. He was taken into police custody till Wednesday March 14, and circle inspector Bhaskar Rai presented him before the judge on Wednesday and pleaded for extension of police custody by 15 more days. However, the judge allowed only five more days for completion of investigations.

Vittal’s mother Honnamma was waiting in the court complex on Wednesday morning. Her desire to see her son Vittal and talk to him remained unfulfilled as the police brought Vittal to the court on Wednesday evening.

The process of recording the large haul of arms and ammunitions left behind by Naxals in the forest was completed on Wednesday. It’s the first time in the history of the taluk that such a large haul of arms and ammunitions was recovered from the Naxals.

STF from Kerala and Tamil Nadu

Special Task Force (STF) personnel from Tamil Nadu and Kerala are likely to begin investigations on possible links with the LTTE, since literature in Tamil and Malayalam was found among the large haul.

Tamil Nadu STF consisting of three officers and three assistants is investigating in Kolli region, near here, while STF from Kerala has already completed their investigations and left the taluk. ASP Prabhakar has been leading the investigations since Wednesday.

Investigating officer ASP Anuchet, speaking to Daijiworld, said that the process of recording took some time due to the large quantity of the haul. He added that further investigations are under way.

Instead of arresting. harrasing and foisting casses against Vittal and such like, if govt can solve the issues the naxals are fighting, and if the soceity is more concerned of these issues and any attempt to resolve, the naxalism will fade away and a better soceity will emerge. Is any body listening....

Arresting and once again asking for police custody for 15 days virtually making Mr Vittal out of study in the varsity which is grave mistake by the Police Department. Police can perpetuate evidences like the police officer who planted condoms in the SPA in Mangalore for not giving 'BIKSHE'.. .The educated gentleman belongs to MALEKUDIA community which belongs to ST or SC category highly impossible to support Naxals. The locals, mostly tribals and forest dwellers are backward and economically very poor. They were sandwiched between NAXALS and heartless ANF....
