Panaji, May 30: Marking Goa Statehood Day celebrations, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant highlighted the state's ongoing transformation and credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for providing the leadership and support necessary to drive major development initiatives across Goa.

Addressing a gathering at the Kala Academy, Sawant said a series of infrastructure, connectivity, and public welfare projects undertaken in recent years are helping shape a stronger and more prosperous future for the state. He noted that the Centre’s backing has enabled Goa to implement projects aimed at meeting both present needs and long-term developmental goals.

“The infrastructure being created today has been planned to benefit Goa for the next 50 years,” the Chief Minister said, emphasizing that the government's approach focuses on sustainable growth and future-ready development.

The Statehood Day function was attended by Vice President of India C. P. Radhakrishnan as the chief guest. During the event, state leaders reflected on Goa’s developmental progress and its role in the broader national growth agenda.

Sawant highlighted investments across key sectors, including transportation, healthcare, education, and public infrastructure, stating that these initiatives are strengthening the state's economy while improving the quality of life for residents. He added that Goa's development roadmap remains closely aligned with the country's vision for inclusive and sustainable growth.

Reaffirming the government's commitment to preserving Goa’s unique identity, Sawant said development efforts would continue alongside the protection of the state's cultural heritage, traditions, language, and environment.

Recalling the sacrifices made during Operation Vijay, the Chief Minister described Statehood Day as an occasion to honour the courage of those who fought for Goa’s liberation. He said the celebration reflects the state's rich cultural legacy, spiritual traditions, and linguistic heritage.

“Goa is a land of faith, culture and heritage. Though geographically small, it occupies a special place in the nation's identity,” he said.

The celebrations also paid tribute to Goa’s artistic achievements with the inauguration of an exhibition dedicated to Mario Miranda. The exhibition honours the celebrated Goan artist's lasting contribution to Indian art and culture, showcasing his distinctive work and creative legacy.

The Statehood Day programme concluded with cultural presentations and events highlighting Goa’s history, achievements, and aspirations for the future.
