Surat, Jun 5: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched a strong critique of the Congress party, accusing it of relying on uncertainty and disruption to regain political relevance while asserting that voters across the country are increasingly turning away from such strategies.
Addressing a public rally in Surat, Modi said electoral outcomes in recent years reflect growing public confidence in the BJP and diminishing support for Congress. He argued that the opposition party has spent more than a decade attempting to advance its political interests through what he described as a politics of instability.

“For the past 12 years, Congress has tried to build political space for itself through uncertainty and disorder. However, the people of India have consistently rejected this approach and delivered a decisive response through the ballot box,” the Prime Minister said.
Highlighting recent election results, Modi pointed to Gujarat as an example of Congress’s declining influence, claiming that the party’s footprint in the state has steadily shrunk over time.
According to him, dissatisfaction with Congress is also evident in states where it currently governs. He cited local body election results in Himachal Pradesh, saying voters had expressed discontent with the state government's performance.
“People in Himachal Pradesh have clearly voiced their dissatisfaction and rejected Congress’s style of governance,” he said.
The Prime Minister further referred to municipal election setbacks in Haryana and recent political developments in Punjab, arguing that these outcomes signal broader challenges for the opposition party.
“These results show that politics based on dependency and opportunism cannot succeed. The public wants stability, development and effective governance,” Modi said.
Drawing a contrast with the BJP’s governance model, Modi said his party remains focused on development, public welfare and infrastructure expansion. He credited the people of Gujarat for repeatedly backing the BJP over the past two-and-a-half decades and noted that the party had recently secured significant victories in local body polls.
Modi also stressed that electoral success brings greater responsibility rather than mere political recognition. He said elected representatives must treat public mandates as an opportunity to deepen their commitment to service and accelerate development initiatives.
Reaffirming his government’s long-term vision, the Prime Minister said the goal remains to build a developed Gujarat and contribute to the creation of a developed India through sustained growth, improved infrastructure and people-centric governance.
