Shooting near Ohio street festival leaves several injured

Ohio, Jun 7: Several people were injured after a shooting near a community street festival in Toledo, Ohio, on Saturday evening, prompting a major police response and an intensive search for the suspect or suspects involved.

The Toledo Police Department said officers responded to reports of gunfire near the annual Old West End Festival at around 5.30 pm. Upon arrival, police found multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

Authorities confirmed that several injured individuals were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. However, officials have not yet disclosed the exact number of victims or details regarding their conditions.

"Many victims have been transported to nearby medical facilities for treatment. The Toledo Police Department is actively searching for the suspect or suspects involved," police said in a statement, urging residents and visitors to avoid the area while investigations continue.

An eyewitness, Kevin Berry, told the Associated Press that he was attending the festival and listening to live music with friends when gunshots rang out. Berry, who has medical training and previously served in the US Navy, said he immediately began searching for people who needed assistance.

According to Berry, he saw at least five individuals suffering from gunshot wounds following the incident.

Police have not identified any suspects and have not announced any arrests. Investigators are working to determine the circumstances that led to the shooting.

The incident occurred near the Old West End Festival, a popular two-day event held in Toledo's historic district. The festival features live music performances, food vendors, shopping opportunities and guided tours of historic homes.
