Madgaon, Jun 11: Union Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti V Somanna on Thursday flagged off the Madgaon-Karwar Express from Madgaon railway station, enhancing rail connectivity between Goa and the coastal districts of Karnataka.

Railway officials said the new service will provide a convenient, affordable and efficient travel option for commuters, students, tourists and business travellers, while also promoting tourism, trade and socio-economic development in the region.

Addressing the gathering, Somanna said that under the leadership of Narendra Modi, Indian Railways has undergone significant modernisation and expansion aimed at improving connectivity and passenger experience across the country.

He said the launch of the Madgaon-Karwar Express reflects the government's commitment to fulfilling public aspirations and strengthening regional transportation links.

Goa minister Digambar Kamat, who was present at the event, thanked the Railway Ministry for fulfilling a long-pending demand of people in Goa and neighbouring districts of Karnataka.

He said improved rail connectivity would contribute to the growth of tourism, commerce and employment opportunities, benefiting residents on both sides of the Goa-Karnataka border.

Officials noted that the new train service is expected to improve accessibility between key destinations along the Konkan coast and support economic activity across the region.
