Will Carry On As Long As I Enjoy My Game: Tendulkar

Mirpur (Dhaka), Mar 17 (IANS): India's batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, who got his landmark 100th international century against Bangladesh here Friday, ended all speculation about his immediate retirement saying he would carry on playing international cricket as long as he enjoys the game.

"When I think of retirement I will not hide it. Don't worry about it. I will carry on as long as I enjoy it," said Tendulkar.

Having waited for just over a year to get the 100th international ton, Tendulkar said it has been a tough phase for him. The joy, however, was short-lived as India lost the match despite Tendulkar's 114.

"I can't think of anything at this stage. It has been a tough phase for me. I started off the season batting reasonably well, batted well in Australia without much luck. It doesn't really matter how many hundreds you score, in the end you have to put your head down and grind it out for the team," said Tendulkar.

Tendulkar said may a times during the last year he felt frustrated at not getting the milestone.

"I am a human being and I will be honest. Many a time I was frustrated and it does play on your mind," he said.

When someone pointed out that he has turned every stone thrown at him into a milestone, Tendulkar said: "The 100th ton was tough but I don't play for milestones. I just play for the love of the game. The process that started way back in 1989 is still continuing. I still make mistakes after more than 20 years of playing international cricket.

"It was testing time for me and I thank god for whatever has come my way. I don't take things for granted. Whatever score I am batting on, I don't take things for granted. You have to be on your toes. I have to execute the plans of my team. The century was not the only thing that was playing in my mind. I avoided looking at the scoreboard and personal score but kept a track of the run rate."

The 38-year old said he wasn't thinking too much about the milestone despite the unprecedented attention by his fans and the media.

"To be honest, I was not really thinking about it. The media started it all. Wherever I went, to the restaurant, room service, housekeeping, everyone was talking about the 100th hundred. It was surprising as nobody talked about my 99 hundreds."

Tendulkar slowed down a bit while getting to the magical figure. When asked about how he paced his innings, Tendulkar said: "It was slightly different, the ball was not coming onto the bat. Virat (Kohli) and I were discussing that 275-280 would be a decent score on this wicket.

Many feel Tendulkar's feat won't be repeated but he thinks the important thing is to play for the team.

"It hasn't sunk in but I have definitely lost about 50 kilos," he quipped when asked about the significance of his achievement.

Asked about the Bangladesh team, Tendulkar said: "Bangladesh is a good underrated team. People still talk of Bangladesh as if they don't know how to play cricket. They way they played against Pakistan is a proof of their good cricket. They have been in international cricket for quite some time."

His message to the youngsters: "Dreams do come true. I had to wait for one for 22 years (the World Cup). So, go out there and chase your dreams."

Congrats to Sachin!. It is unfortunate that India lost the match. There are number of instances that India lost when Sachin scored century. People should understand that it is not becuase of his century we lose the matches. It is becuase of others poor performance (especially the bowlers) who failed to take the wickets in time. I do agree that in this match he played bit slow in few overs (no runs or singles), however the run rate was not bad at all. The bowlers to be blamed here.

    No end to records...

Now that the 100th 100 is out of the way, what next? The 50th ODI century!

Once that is out of the way, what next? The 100th ODI 50!

Once that is out of the way, what next? 20,000 ODI runs!

Once that is out of the way...

There is really no end to such records and we can keep going on till ad infinitum.

He may as well play in the 2015 World Cup too.

If he is not planning to do that then it is better that he gracefully calls it a day.

While, I like every other Indian cricket fan, loves the spectacle of an India accumulating records non-stop, there comes a time when that too should come to an end.

when he finally hit a century to come into form, it was a tad bit slow and led to a loss. That has got to rankle big time.

He may still help us lift the Asia Cup, but that is beside the point. It is time for India to give a total free reign to youngsters in the ODI scene with an eye to the 2015 World Cup and let Sachin continue to play in Tests where he still has a lot

Sachin scored century only because he played against the weak team like Bangla. He played so slow and didnt give chance to another players just because he wanted to get 100 he dint even bother about country's defeat. selfish..

For all who write bad or criticise badly against a player. Its very easy to talk or show fingers to others. Instead of writing ill or critising why cant they play for the county with all dedication, strength which the players are doing. Even the players are humanbeins like us who got all the dails problems, obstacles in their lives. Losing the match doesnt depend on one players luck. You cannot say if Sachins plays well or scores century then India will lose the match. Its very disgusting to see how corrupted people's minds are.

    Dear Linus
There is something called the 'rub off' effect in cricket!Know why Kohli got out ? He too was concentrating on sachin's Hundred! Raina too did initially and then in the nick of time recovered ! Those 20/30 runs went abegging1 Imagine being 1 down between 30 and 35 overs and playing maidens! This is not selfless cricket be it Sachin
or anybody else! No wonder the Aussies laugh at us for pampering an individual at the cost of losing matches! Why are others there you ask? You mean the likes of Dinda , Pinda etc are bowlers?
Batting was our strength and we should have crossed at least 300! Sachin's give away is in his interview when he say's it was a 290 pitch. For what I now ask? For losing... Come on Sachin, at least Let selfishness not reflect in your words. What reflects in the face is enough! And we have very good memories
of your bat weilding- Let ones like these not overshadow it forever!! Please quit in dignity and now....

Congratulations! Great Sachin on your 100 one day ODI century. Even though you took one year to achieve finally you achieved it.You made Indians proud. You kept India on top for the past 20 years or so, and There is if any other Sachin it may take a long long time in history to achieve this mile stone. Even we lost to Bangladesh there is a proud moment about your achievement. One cannot win every match though, If one remembers Sachin saved so many macthes for India in the past like the one distaraous tour of world cup in 1999.Still you have stamina just like a younster who plays with you. Keep it up.

Out of his 49 ODI centuries, India lost only 13 times, So one should think twice before criticizing anyone. There is no doubt that he is one of the greatest player ever world produced so far. But some people without knowing the statistics simply waste their time in cribbing on unwanted things.

According to me, one should leave it to Sachin about his retirement, No one is perfect and no one can make right decision than himself. He is the best person to decide when to retire and how to retire.
I remember after 2007 world cup everyone started demanding for Sachin's retirement saying this is the right time for him to retire now, But later in 2010 he score first Double century in the world, and in 2011 world cup he was the highest run scorer for India. So How could one say that this is the right time for him to retire. He may produce some more magical moments in cricket which no one knows.
I think after playing for such a long time, Only Sachin can know when is the right time for him to decide. And I think Public should stop bothering about his retirement.

BCCI & Indian team is Tendulkar's Fathers property to continue in the team till he enjoy the game. BCCI headquarters should be shifted from Mumbai to Delhi. Mumbai mafia is dictating terms in picking.

    Dear Orton,

Tendulkar's job is to score runs, which he did. 290 runs is good score. Our bowlers could not defend this score, then what can Tendulkar do? You mean he has to take also opposition wickets. Then why others are playing?

Sachin you should shame yourself, because of your own selfishness, you never gave anyone a chance to enter cricket team. You are a too old and you should quit cricket so that others will get the opportunity to show their talent. but you was so selfish and you had influence with the management like they lick your dirty leg. so now my point is get out and give chance to the young stars who play better than you but never got a chance to play in Indian team because of your selfishness. I hated you and i will hate you forever. because of your rude attituede. i can't understand.. why you guys are commenting like kids!!!!, whats wrong in his play?.he is performing consistenly... tell me the name of one player.. who done more better than tendulker.. in last Austrilia/ England tour. he is the second heighest run getter in the world cup. after the world cup,CB serier is his first oneday encounter!!!!let youngsters get their chance by therei own abilty.. like koli!!!, what our bowlers doing?? they never perform consistently..before it was Rahul...tell the name of on guy in indian side, can replace his position in test Side.. unless we have player on bench like Forest, Warner, watson in Austrilia, forcing some one to quit in not logical.... tendulker may be now 39.. his ability, dedication.and skills make him play more and more.. i am sure.. he will play for india , in next world cup!!!
