Kochi, Jun 18: A tea vendor in Kerala has won widespread appreciation for a compassionate gesture after CCTV footage captured him giving his own mundu (dhoti) to a woman whose clothes were torn in a road accident.

The incident occurred at Statue Junction in Tripunithura on Tuesday when a woman reportedly fell beneath a private bus. Bystanders rushed to her aid and managed to pull her out, helping her escape a potentially fatal accident.

Among those who responded immediately was local tea vendor M R Shaji. During the rescue, it was noticed that the woman's clothes had been badly torn, leaving her distressed and vulnerable.

Without hesitation, Shaji removed his own mundu and handed it over so that she could cover herself before being taken to hospital.

Speaking to reporters, Shaji said he acted instinctively after seeing the woman's condition.

"She was unable to stand because of her injuries when she was rescued from beneath the bus. Her clothes had been torn apart. I did not think twice. With the help of a friend, I removed my mundu and gave it to her so that she could be taken to hospital with dignity," he said.

The act, recorded on CCTV cameras, quickly went viral on social media, with many users praising Shaji for his presence of mind and humanity during a moment of crisis.

While the accident itself shocked onlookers, it was the tea vendor's gesture that drew widespread admiration, with many describing it as a powerful example of compassion and respect for human dignity.

Shaji's selfless act has since resonated with people across the state and beyond, serving as a reminder that small acts of kindness can make a significant difference in difficult circumstances.
