Karachi, Jun 28: At least three paramilitary personnel were killed after terrorists attacked a Pakistan Rangers headquarters in Karachi’s densely populated Gulistan-e-Jauhar area on Saturday, police said.

Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho said preliminary investigations revealed that the attackers arrived in a vehicle and forced their way into the compound by ramming the main gate.

He said Rangers personnel responded immediately to the attack and engaged the terrorists in a gun battle, but three personnel lost their lives.

Odho said an explosion was heard when the attack began, though the cause of the blast has not yet been confirmed.

“What is confirmed is that as soon as the attack took place, the Rangers personnel immediately took positions and engaged these attackers in a gun battle,” he said.

Following the incident, the area was cordoned off and nearby roads were closed as security forces carried out operations.

Sindh Home Minister Zia ul Hasan Lanjhar said Special Security Unit commandos and the Anti-Terrorist Force were assisting Rangers personnel in the clearance operation.

Further investigations into the attack are underway.
