Mumbai, Jun 28: A police constable was allegedly abused and threatened while attempting to intervene in a violent altercation during Moharram bandobast duty in Jogeshwari East. An FIR has been registered against the accused, who remains absconding, police officials said.
The incident took place on June 26 when police personnel were deployed for security arrangements near Idgah Maidan and Jhoola Maidan under the jurisdiction of Meghwadi Police Station.

According to the police, Constable Amol Pawar, 40, noticed a large crowd gathering near Idgah Masjid and proceeded to the spot to investigate. On reaching the location, he allegedly found a man, later identified as Shamshad Fazlu Shaikh, assaulting another individual with a trouser belt.
