Kolhapur tourist dies after diving into shallow pool at Sindhudurg resort

Sindhudurg, Jun 29: A weekend trip turned tragic for a 25-year-old tourist from Kolhapur after he died while diving into a shallow swimming pool at a resort in Maharashtra's Sindhudurg district. The incident, captured on video, has gone viral on social media.

The victim was identified as Shrenik Milind Takale from Kolhapur district. The incident took place on June 20 at a resort in Vayari village of Malvan taluka, where Takale had gone on a trip with nine friends.

According to police, Takale and his friends were seen dancing near the swimming pool shortly before the accident. A video recorded at the resort shows him climbing to a height of around eight to 10 feet before diving headfirst into a shallow section of the pool meant for children.

Police said the pool was only around four feet deep. The impact of the dive caused Takale to hit his head on the bottom of the pool, resulting in serious head injuries. He collapsed immediately after entering the water.

His friends rushed him to Malvan Rural Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Police have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) in connection with the incident. After completion of post-mortem procedures, the body was handed over to the family.

The investigation is being conducted under the supervision of Police Sub-Inspector Ganesh Mane.

The video footage showing the moments before the fatal dive has attracted widespread attention online, with the incident highlighting the dangers of diving into shallow water without assessing depth and safety conditions.
