Brahmavar, Jun 29: The Golden Jubilee Committee of Maryknoll High School, Barkur, organised a heartfelt felicitation programme to honour the headmistress, teachers, and non-teaching staff as the institution prepares to close after nearly six decades of service.
Founded by the Sisters of Charity around 60 years ago, the school initially catered to girls before becoming co-educational during its silver jubilee. over the years, it played a significant role in educating generations of students in the region.
Speaking at the programme, headmistress Sr Jasmita Crasta said the decision to close the school at the end of the current academic year was taken due to unavoidable circumstances. She assured that students have been accommodated in other schools while teaching and non-teaching staff have also been suitably placed.

The programme began with a prayer by the final batch of students and featured addresses by former students, committee members and dignitaries, including Fr Ronald Miranda and sister superior Clara.
Teachers honoured for their years of service included Swarnalatha G (30 years), Harry Hector Gonsalves (24), Ramananda Rao (19), Suhaila Manohar Kairan (16), Sulochana (10), Gretta Futardo (9), Sumithra (4) and Harshitha for her dedicated service.
In her presidential address, sister superior Clara brought the formal proceedings to a close with warmth and grace. She took the opportunity to specially congratulate the Golden Jubilee Committee — its office-bearers and every member — for organising a programme of such sensitivity and dignity. Her words were a reminder that behind every great institution is a community that refuses to let it be forgotten.
An emotional highlight of the event was the singing of the school anthem by students and alumni, marking the end of an era for one of Barkur's long-standing educational institutions.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, the National Anthem and refreshments for those in attendance.
