Nashik, Jun 30: A 68-year-old woman died and her 78-year-old husband is undergoing critical treatment after they allegedly suffered food poisoning following a non-vegetarian meal and curd at Akhatwade in Baglan taluk of Nashik district.
The deceased has been identified as Dwarkabai Shantaram Hyaalij, while her husband Shantaram Nanaji Hyaalij is currently undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit of a private hospital in Malegaon.
The Hyaalij family had consumed a mutton meal on Saturday night (June 27). After having curd later, the elderly couple reportedly began feeling unwell.

Their son Aadhaar Hyaalij immediately rushed both of them to the Nampur Rural Hospital. However, after examination, doctors declared Dwarkabai dead.
The exact cause of the suspected poisoning is yet to be confirmed, and samples have been sent to a laboratory in Pune for analysis.
According to their son, he had eaten the mutton first, while his parents had their meal nearly an hour later. Around one to one-and-a-half hours after eating, his mother developed vomiting and diarrhoea symptoms, followed by similar discomfort in his father.
He said he repeatedly asked his mother to visit a hospital, but she initially refused. Later, her condition worsened and she died.
Shantaram Hyaalij was admitted to the hospital in a serious condition on Saturday night. Doctors said his oxygen level had dropped to around 55 per cent, following which he was placed on a ventilator. His blood pressure was also low and medicines are being administered to stabilise his condition. Doctors said his condition remains critical.
Meanwhile, in another incident from Nashik, a 16-year-old girl who died after receiving a tetanus and diphtheria preventive vaccine at the Kamatwade Primary Health Centre in CIDCO was suspected to have died due to a severe allergic reaction, according to a preliminary assessment by the municipal medical department.
The deceased, identified as Shravani Anil Patil, had visited the urban primary health centre on June 24 at around 12.40 pm and was administered the vaccine. While returning home, she reportedly felt dizzy and collapsed.
Her parents took her to a private hospital, following which she was shifted to the district hospital where doctors declared her dead.
Authorities have started a detailed investigation into the case. Skin, blood samples and viscera have been sent to forensic laboratories in Nashik and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar to determine the exact cause of death.
The remaining vaccine from the vial used for Shravani’s injection has also been sent to the Central Research Institute in Himachal Pradesh for testing to check whether there were any issues with the vaccine.
