Mumbai's Powai Lake overflows after heavy monsoon rains, bringing relief to residents

Daijiworld Media Network – Mumbai

Mumbai, Jul 1: Powai Lake, one of Mumbai's key artificial lakes, began overflowing on Wednesday morning following heavy monsoon rainfall across the city and several parts of Maharashtra, offering much-needed relief after weeks of delayed rains and water shortages.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said the lake started overflowing at around 5.30 am.

Sharing the update, the civic body said, "Powai Lake, one of the most important artificial lakes in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation area, started overflowing around 5.30 am today. With a water holding capacity of 545 crore litres, the lake's water is used only for industrial purposes."

The overflowing lake comes as welcome news for Mumbaikars, who had been facing water cuts in several parts of the city and suburbs due to a delayed onset of the southwest monsoon.

The recent spell of intense rainfall has significantly improved water levels in the city's lakes, raising hopes of easing water supply concerns in the coming weeks.
