New Delhi, Jul 1: General Dhiraj Seth on Wednesday assumed charge as the 31st Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) and unveiled his five-point 'VIJAY' vision aimed at transforming the Indian Army into a technologically advanced, future-ready and self-reliant force capable of meeting evolving security challenges.
Addressing officers after taking over the country's highest military post, General Seth described the occasion as one of "immense pride and humility" and reaffirmed his commitment to the principles of "duty, honour and nation first." He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh for entrusting him with the leadership of the Indian Army.

Paying tribute to soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation, the Army Chief said their courage and selflessness would continue to inspire generations of personnel.
Highlighting the changing nature of global warfare, General Seth said the Indian Army would intensify its modernisation efforts by embracing emerging technologies, innovation and greater integration across the armed forces.
At the heart of his roadmap is the 'VIJAY' framework, an acronym representing five strategic priorities.
The first pillar, Vigilance and Preparedness, focuses on maintaining a high level of operational readiness to effectively respond to any threat along India's borders.
The second, Innovation and Transformation, aims to integrate cutting-edge technologies and modern military doctrines to strengthen the Army's capabilities and prepare it for future battlefields.
Under Jointness and Integration, General Seth stressed the need for closer coordination with the Indian Air Force and the Indian Navy, while advocating a broader whole-of-nation approach through civil-military cooperation to enhance national security.
The fourth pillar, Atmanirbharata (Self-Reliance), seeks to promote indigenous defence technologies and reduce dependence on imported military equipment.
"Our overarching objective will be to win our wars with indigenous solutions," General Seth said.
The final pillar, Yodha First, places the welfare and professional development of soldiers at the centre of the Army's transformation. He said every soldier, from Agniveers to veterans, remains the Army's greatest strength and assured continued focus on training, technological proficiency and the welfare of veterans and Veer Naris.
General Seth also acknowledged the contributions of his predecessor, General Upendra Dwivedi, and former Chiefs of the Army Staff for building a professional and battle-hardened force.
Concluding his address, the Army Chief linked his vision with the country's goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047, stating that the principles of jointness, innovation and self-reliance would guide the Army's future course.
He ended his speech with the slogan "Jai se Vijay", reaffirming the Indian Army's commitment to safeguarding the nation's sovereignty, territorial integrity and national interests.
