Curchorem, Jul 1: Goa Forward Party leader Dattaraj Desai, along with party workers and supporters, on Wednesday gheraoed the Electricity Department office in Curchorem, protesting against rising electricity tariffs and several issues affecting consumers in the region.

During the protest, Desai confronted Assistant Engineer Guno Gaude over what he termed as growing public resentment against steep electricity bills, increased tariffs, penalties and other billing-related grievances.

Alleging that the government was placing an undue financial burden on domestic and small consumers while extending benefits to industrial establishments, Desai urged the authorities to adopt a more consumer-friendly approach and provide relief to households struggling with rising power costs.

He also claimed that the Assistant Engineer failed to give satisfactory explanations regarding the tariff hike, billing practices and penalties imposed on consumers.

Demanding greater transparency and accountability, Desai called on the Electricity Department to clearly explain the reasons behind the increased charges and take immediate measures to address the grievances of electricity consumers.
