Northamptonshire, Jul 4: Kimi Antonelli delivered another impressive performance to win the sprint race at the British Grand Prix on Saturday, overtaking seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton before pulling away to strengthen his lead in the Formula One Drivers' Championship.
The 19-year-old Mercedes driver maintained his composure through a frantic opening phase at Silverstone before making his decisive move on Hamilton's Ferrari along the Hangar Straight on lap eight. Having carefully managed his battery deployment, Antonelli executed the overtake cleanly and went on to secure his first Formula One sprint victory by a comfortable margin.

The result increased Antonelli's championship advantage to 43 points over Mercedes teammate George Russell.
Behind the leading duo, the battle for the remaining podium positions produced intense action. Lando Norris, Russell and Max Verstappen exchanged positions several times during the opening laps. Norris made an excellent start from sixth on the grid, climbing to fourth on the opening lap before overtaking Russell on lap two. After several exchanges, the McLaren driver consolidated third place and gradually pulled away from the chasing pack.
Russell eventually regained fourth position from Verstappen on lap nine, while Ferrari's Charles Leclerc overtook the Red Bull driver a lap later to move into fifth. Verstappen was unable to respond but successfully defended sixth place from McLaren's Oscar Piastri until the chequered flag.
Further down the order, Liam Lawson of Racing Bulls held off sustained pressure from Red Bull's Isack Hadjar to claim the final points-paying position.
Antonelli's composed drive added another milestone to an outstanding debut Formula One campaign, with the young Italian defeating Hamilton at Silverstone and taking another significant step towards a maiden world championship.
Qualifying for Sunday's British Grand Prix is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. IST.
