Beltangady, Jul 8: Trekking enthusiasts have been left disappointed as the Forest Department has once again temporarily suspended trekking to the popular Gadaikallu hill in Beltangady from July 8, following a spell of intense rainfall across Dakshina Kannada district.
The Wildlife Division of the Forest Department has issued an official order restricting the entry of the public and trekkers as a precautionary measure, citing safety concerns. Continuous rains have made the rocks and trekking trails of Gadaikallu extremely slippery, turning the trek into a high-risk activity.

Trekking to Gadaikallu was officially opened for visitors on June 1 this year. However, within days of its reopening, the trek was suspended for the first time due to heavy rains. After weather conditions improved, trekking was permitted again from June 25.
With heavy rainfall continuing across the district, the Forest Department has now imposed another temporary ban on trekking with effect from July 8.
According to weather department reports, Belthangady taluk is likely to receive very heavy rainfall, with the possibility of around 130 mm of rain. The prolonged downpour has raised concerns over waterlogging in low-lying areas.
Authorities have also warned of a heightened risk of landslides in the ghat sections and hilly regions of Dakshina Kannada due to the prevailing weather conditions.
Revenue and disaster management officials have urged motorists travelling on ghat roads and people residing near hill slopes to remain alert and avoid unnecessary travel. The advisory comes amid concerns over landslides and other rain-related hazards in vulnerable areas of the district.
