Haldwani, Jul 22: A 55-year-old woman and her two sons died of suspected suffocation after entering a newly constructed water tank at their residence in Uttarakhand's Haldwani on Tuesday.

The incident occurred in the Gaulapar area of Haldwani, where the family had recently built a water tank. According to preliminary information, the woman's elder son entered the tank to remove the shuttering material used during construction.

Soon after entering the confined space, he reportedly lost consciousness due to a lack of oxygen. His mother, Saraswati Devi, then entered the tank in an attempt to rescue him but also collapsed.

Moments later, her younger son entered the tank to save both his mother and brother. However, he too lost consciousness inside the tank.

Villagers later pulled all three victims out and rushed them to Sushila Tiwari Hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.

The tragic incident has left the family and local residents in shock. Authorities have also warned about the dangers of entering enclosed spaces such as water tanks without proper ventilation and safety measures.
