New Delhi, Jul 22: Defence minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday voiced concern over the ongoing protests in the national capital, alleging that a section of the Opposition was attempting to mislead the country's youth by turning student issues into a political campaign.

Without naming any individual or party, Singh criticised what he described as a "manufactured sense of anger", saying it was an effort by a handful of Opposition leaders to create confusion, particularly among students and young people.

"The manufactured sense of anger by some Opposition leaders is nothing but a failed attempt to confuse and mislead the public, especially the nation's youth," the defence minister said.

His remarks came a day after Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, along with other Opposition leaders, staged a protest outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence at Lok Kalyan Marg, demanding action over the NEET paper leak issue before being removed by Delhi Police.

Rajnath Singh accused the Opposition of using students as political instruments to advance its own agenda instead of focusing on resolving their concerns.

He asserted that the Centre remained committed to listening to students and ensuring that their grievances were addressed fairly.

"The government stands firmly with the students and is committed to ensuring that no injustice is done to any young person. We will continue working to fulfil their aspirations and address their concerns," he said.

The Defence Minister also criticised repeated disruptions in Parliament, alleging that the Opposition was prioritising political demonstrations over meaningful legislative discussions.

He noted that the government had already expressed its willingness to debate every issue during the ongoing Monsoon Session and questioned the need for protests outside Parliament.

"Parliament is in session, and the government is ready for a constructive discussion on every issue. Instead of resolving matters through debate in the House, the Opposition is trying to take them to the streets," he said.

Emphasising the importance of parliamentary democracy, Singh said the legislature remains the proper platform for raising public issues and holding the government accountable.

"The Opposition is free to express its views in Parliament. If it is serious about addressing these issues, it should allow the House to function smoothly and bring the concerns of the people before the nation through debate," he said.

Reaffirming the government's commitment to students, Rajnath Singh said the Centre would continue to work towards safeguarding their interests and ensuring that their concerns receive appropriate attention through democratic institutions.
