Kasargod, Mar 22: The protest staged by left wing youth organizations in front of District Commissioner’s office here on Wednesday March 21, opposing the retirement age of 56 years set by the state administration, turned violent while the police resorted to baton charging and burst tear gas to contain the violent mob.

Policemen and protesters were injured in the violence. City police sub-inspector Mohammed Iqbal, police women Saraswati and Leena, youth activists Manikanta, K Ravindra Nabeesa, P V Rajish, and Jai Hind TV channel correspondent Purushottam were injured in the mob violence.

DYFI, AIYF, and RYF activists were involved in the protest that turned violent when they held a rally from Vidhya Nagar junction to the district commissioner’s office. The police restrained the protesters at the entrance of the district headquarters.

The tense situation prevailed for nearly one-and-a-half-hours and normalcy was restored after additional policemen arrived at the spot.

The police arrested hundreds of activists and admitted the injured in different hospitals in the city.

I think the Govt jobs should be limited to 15 year's and should be given to every citizen who are interested to work in the govt offices. It should be increased to the people who have served in the defence, rest all only limited govt service only 15 year's then retire no pension, so one can be corrupt as much as he can and earn for the retirement. In fact I think there will be a competion for corruption and the rates will come down.

Instead of Government and employees fighting in the public place openly, an amicable solution could be reached at with consent of both parties. Government employees are paid for their skill not for the look and presence in their respective offices as said by a few commentators. It is meaningless to say to employ the unemployed the working employees should be removed from job. 56 is not an age to retire with the present life expectancy where people die of heart attacks, kidney failure etc. even at the tender age of 25, 30 etc. Age is not a factor to decide retirement. Youngsters when employed even with skill are seen showing their exposures more than skill in offices. No one can expect efficiency with qualification. More qualification and far from human nature.

There will be mixed reaction to the retirement age as some people are not ready for retirement at the age of 56years due to commitments. Some would like to retire at age of 60years or 65 years as they feel they are healthy and strong to work at that age. But by lowering the retirement age to 56years many will get jobs.

In USA the retirement age is 65years whereby you will get full benefits such as pension and social security but you could still work beyond that age. You could also retire at age 62 but only thing you will not get full benefits. The pictures were good but you could see the anger of the protesters and frustration of the police to calm down the protesters.

Lowering the retirement age will partially help resolve the biggest crisis of our times UNEMPLOYMENT, and other assocaited ills hunger, poverty, crime etc, etc. A good government will plan some kind of pension plan to support post retirement living. a survey conducted around 30 years ago involving professionals supported lowering of retirement age - will see if I can remember the weekly which did that.

There is no need to fix a retirement age to 56 years because most of them still able to work till 65 years too. Contrarily there are some people they don’t even work from day one too. Government can fix the retirement age at will, but what about Politicians still at the age of 85 too they become MP or MLS or PM or Governor or President?

Dont get me wrong dear friends..

I strongly feel Retirement age must be set at 50 infact. I feel even 56 years is also very high. These people who are enjoying govt job is just doing the time pass work at office. Once you attain 45 yrs, No govt officials will entertain public with good service, They will be busy in their own world, Coming office at 11 am, leaving office at 4 p.m always taking leave saying wife is not feeling well, headache, childrens marriage, neighbours marriage etc etc.
The professionalism, Ethic, Engery, Caliber to work all goes down. They get tired every now and then and the result if any person ask for help they behave in very rude manner saying come tommrrow, ask there, go here there etc.. etc...even for small help they feel they are doing a great job.
The cost to look after them at the age of 50 is very very high to the govt. as compare to the youngsters. There are Crores of Jobless youngsters in the country who will be ready to work in govt office at the HALF THE SALARY of a senior person, with very high professionalism, Ethics and gratitude to the comp.
It is Youngsters who are in need of job, and most of the cases ( I DONT SAY ALL THE CASES) senior officials coming to office just for time pass and to get bribe.
But I also understand there are many families who are dependent of one earning member, who will be Dark if this happen. So i feel Govt should announce Voluntary retirement benefit which should come as a one time good package throughwhich even a most needy people can survive even without a job in hand.

But my sincere opinion is Retirement age should be and Must be capped at 50 years. Let Youngsters and settle their life.
