New Delhi, Jul 23: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday announced that the Centre will establish fast-track courts to ensure "swift" and "stringent punishment" for those involved in examination paper leaks, amid nationwide student protests over the issue.

The announcement comes a day after Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi alleged that there had been no convictions in the 152 reported paper leak cases over the past decade.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said protecting the interests and future of students remained a top priority and warned of strict action against those attempting to undermine the country's examination system.

"We have decided to set up fast-track courts to ensure swift and stringent punishment for those involved in paper leaks. I have directed the concerned authorities and officials to take all necessary steps in this regard," Modi said.

He added that the proposed fast-track courts were part of a broader set of measures being implemented by the government to tackle examination malpractices.

"Nothing is more important than the welfare and future of our youth. Those who try to harm the future of our youth will not be spared," the Prime Minister said.

The announcement comes amid mounting criticism of the government's handling of the alleged examination paper leak cases and the police action against student protesters during their march towards Parliament on July 20.

The Prime Minister's intervention is being seen as an effort by the government to reassure students and address growing concerns over the integrity of competitive examinations.
