New Delhi, Jul 23: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday said it found no evidence to establish the involvement of Sanjeev Kumar alias Sanjeev Mukhiya in the theft or distribution of the stolen NEET-UG 2024 question paper.

According to the agency, the Bihar Police had detected the theft of the NEET-UG question paper in 2024 and registered a case. During the initial investigation, Sanjeev Mukhiya came under suspicion as he had allegedly been involved in certain other paper leak cases. Based on this, Bihar Police named him as an accused in the FIR.

The case was later transferred to the CBI, which carried out a detailed investigation and identified all those involved in the theft and subsequent distribution of the stolen question paper, along with the beneficiaries. The agency subsequently filed multiple chargesheets against 45 accused before a court in Patna.

The CBI said that despite an extensive probe, it did not find any evidence linking Mukhiya to the theft or distribution of the NEET-UG 2024 question paper.

The agency stated that Mukhiya had remained absconding during the relevant period and was later arrested by Bihar Police. Since he had been named in the FIR, the CBI took him into police custody for questioning in connection with the NEET-UG 2024 case.

However, as no evidence emerged against him during the investigation, the CBI did not include his name in any of the chargesheets. Consequently, Mukhiya secured bail in the NEET-UG 2024 case.

The CBI clarified that Mukhiya continued to remain in judicial custody despite being granted bail in the NEET-UG case, as he is an accused in other cases being investigated by Bihar Police.

The agency said its investigation into the NEET-UG 2024 paper theft case had identified the entire conspiracy, all those involved, and ensured that none of the accused escaped the legal process.
