New York, Jul 31: American communications technology company Zoom has identified India as one of its most important global markets, citing the country's rapid adoption of artificial intelligence (AI), strong innovation ecosystem and vast talent pool.
Speaking to Reporter, Zoom President of Product and Engineering Velchamy Sankarlingam said India plays a key role in the company's growth strategy, both as a market for its services and as a hub for research and product development.

"India is one of our most critical markets. It is a huge market with immense talent, innovation and world-class educational institutions. Many global companies also have a significant presence in India, making it important for both local businesses and multinational corporations," he said.
Sankarlingam said almost every major Zoom team has a presence in India, enabling the company to develop, test and deploy new technologies while learning from the country's diverse user base.
He noted that India's linguistic diversity provides valuable opportunities to enhance AI capabilities, particularly in supporting multiple regional languages and dialects.
Zoom currently operates technology centres in Bengaluru and Chennai, focusing on research and development, engineering support and Zoom Contact Center solutions. The company also has data centres in Mumbai and Hyderabad to support customers requiring local data storage.
Highlighting the company's expansion in India, Sankarlingam said Zoom was the first to introduce Zoom Phone in the country. The service, licensed by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), is now available across six telecom circles, including Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi-NCR, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
He said Zoom Contact Center has also witnessed encouraging growth in India by offering AI-powered customer support across multiple channels, including voice, video, email, messaging platforms and social media.
As an example of its enterprise solutions, Sankarlingam cited eyewear retailer Lenskart, which uses Zoom Contact Center to enable optometrists to conduct remote eye examinations through video consultations, helping overcome regional shortages of specialists.
The company currently supports several Indian languages, including Hindi, Gujarati and Tamil, and plans to further strengthen multilingual AI capabilities to improve customer experience across the country.
Sankarlingam added that Zoom works closely with Indian regulators to ensure compliance with local data storage requirements and remains committed to expanding its partner network across India and the Asia-Pacific region.
Describing India as a key driver of future growth, he said the company remains "very bullish" on the country and sees significant opportunities as businesses increasingly adopt AI-powered workplace solutions.
Earlier this month, Zoom marked its 15th anniversary, with founder and CEO Eric Yuan ringing the Nasdaq opening bell. The company has evolved from a video conferencing platform into an AI-powered collaboration platform focused on enhancing workplace productivity and communication.
