Kundapur: Accused arrested in businessman Ivan Mascarenhas murder case

Kundapur, Aug 1: Udupi police on Saturday, August 1, arrested Derrick, the accused in the murder of businessman Ivan Mascarenhas, who was shot dead near Holy Rosary Church in Kundapur.

Derrick was arrested from Bhatkal in Uttara Kannada district.

Ivan Mascarenhas was allegedly shot dead by Derrick in the early hours of July 31 near Holy Rosary Church on Church Road in Kundapur. The murder is suspected to have stemmed from a business dispute.

According to the police, Derrick had called Ivan to meet him alone in Kundapur after an argument between the two over the phone. He had shared the location with Ivan and asked him to come alone. When Ivan reached the spot near Holy Rosary Church, Derrick allegedly shot him in the waist. Ivan succumbed to excessive bleeding at the scene.

Following the incident, Udupi superintendent of police Hariram Shankar had constituted three special teams to trace and arrest the absconding accused. Derrick was apprehended on Saturday.
