Mangaluru: Dharma Jyothi Social Centre organises Sanjeevini awareness, Vanamahotsava programmes

Mangaluru, Aug 1: Dharma Jyothi Social Centre, Vamanjoor, organised an awareness programme on the importance of the Sanjeevini Federation and a Vanamahotsava (Tree Plantation) programme on July 31 with the participation of Self-Help Group (SHG) members and social work students.

The awareness programme on the Sanjeevini Federation was inaugurated with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Jayaram, director of the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat Sanjeevini Federation, and Sr Veera Monis (SRA), director of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre.

The resource person, Hariprasad, district programme coordinator, explained the objectives, benefits and functioning of the Sanjeevini Federation under various government schemes. He also elaborated on the opportunities available through the federation and its role in empowering Self-Help Groups.

Subrahmanya, taluk programme coordinator of the Sanjeevini Federation, and Asha, president of the Women Souharda Federation, also addressed the gathering and highlighted the significance of the programme and the role of the Sanjeevini Federation in promoting women's empowerment and community development.

A total of 79 members of Self-Help Groups participated in the awareness programme. The event was compered by Renita Lewis.

Later, Dharma Jyothi Social Centre, Vamanjoor, in association with the School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru, organised a Vanamahotsava (Tree Plantation) programme to promote environmental conservation.

As part of the initiative, saplings were planted within the premises of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre.

The programme was attended by Sr Veera Monis (SRA), director of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre; Asha, president of the Women Souharda Federation; Jayaram, director of the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat Sanjeevini Federation; Hariprasad, district programme coordinator; and Subrahmanya, taluk programme coordinator of the Sanjeevini Federation.

A total of 79 members of Self-Help Groups, along with Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and Master of Social Work (MSW) students from Roshni Nilaya, participated in the tree plantation programme, reaffirming their commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development.
