KMC Hospital Attavar to launch comprehensive obesity and metabolic clinic

Media Release

Mangaluru, Aug 1: With obesity and metabolic disorders on the rise across the region, KMC Hospital Attavar is set to launch a comprehensive obesity and metabolic clinic. The clinic will bring together several specialties under one roof for the prevention and treatment of obesity and the many health conditions that come along with it.

Speaking about the new facility, Dr Sachin Krishna Raj, assistant professor, department of endocrinology, said, “Obesity is today understood as a chronic metabolic disease and not merely a lifestyle issue. It is a leading risk factor for type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, fatty liver, sleep apnea, joint problems and several other long-term illnesses. The idea behind this clinic is to offer scientific and patient-centred care by placing multiple specialties in one place.”

He added that the clinic provides a full evaluation and a personalised treatment plan through a team of specialists drawn from endocrinology, clinical nutrition, physiotherapy, gastrointestinal and bariatric surgery, and plastic and reconstructive surgery. Every patient is given an individual care plan that may include metabolic assessment, medical weight management, diet counselling, supervised exercise programmes, and where suitable, advanced surgical options.

Dr Unnikrishnan, dean, Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Mangaluru, said, “The launch of this clinic reflects the academic and clinical strength that KMC Mangaluru brings to patient care. Obesity and metabolic disorders call for a coordinated response that draws on several disciplines, and our teaching hospitals are well placed to provide this. Initiatives such as this reinforce our commitment to combining scientific rigour with compassionate, patient-centred care for the people of this region.”

Dr Chakrapani M, medical superintendent, KMC Hospital Attavar, said, “Obesity is a complex medical condition that needs long-term scientific management. Early diagnosis along with a multidisciplinary approach can bring down obesity-related complications to a good extent, while improving a person’s overall health and quality of life.”

Dr Deepak Madi, deputy medical superintendent, KMC Hospital Attavar, said “the launch of the clinic reflects the hospital’s commitment to advanced and complete healthcare. By bringing various specialties into a single clinic, patients can now receive coordinated and comprehensive obesity care without having to move from one department to another”.

The comprehensive obesity and metabolic clinic will be fully operational from August 1st at KMC Hospital Attavar, giving the region a dedicated centre for holistic weight management and metabolic health.
