Mangaluru: Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy hosts 'Kaavyan Vhalo-17' poets' meet

Mangaluru, Aug 1: The Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy organised the 17th edition of its poetry gathering, 'Kaavyan Vhalo-17', at the Academy Hall on Saturday, bringing together renowned poets, literary enthusiasts and artistes to celebrate Konkani literature.

Academy president Joachim Stany Alvares, who presided over the programme, said the academy has been actively working across various dimensions of the Konkani language and culture. He noted that members of all Konkani-speaking communities have been associated with the academy and reaffirmed its commitment to extending continuous support to Konkani writers and artistes.

Delivering the keynote address, noted mimicry artiste Dr Vasant S Bandekar appreciated the academy's consistent efforts in promoting Konkani literature and culture. Having served as an Academy member during two terms, he said the institution not only supports writers but also recognises individuals who have contributed to other fields connected with the Konkani community.

Veteran photojournalist Ramachandra Bhat Ullal, who was honoured by the academy, expressed gratitude for the recognition. He said that though he was not a litterateur, he was proud to be a Konkani, and thanked the academy for acknowledging his years of professional service.

During the event, the second volume of 'Kaavyan Vhalo' was released by the chief guest, while the academy's quarterly magazine 'Sirisampada' was unveiled by the awardee.

Eminent poet Wilfred Lobo Padil conducted the poetry session and offered insights into poetry and the participating poets. Poems were presented by Jossy Pinto Kinnigoli, Shaila Mangalurkar, Chelsea Pearl Castelino, Richie Pereira, Marcel D'Souza (Machcha Millar), Jagadish Bhandari, Ron Michael Vaz, Joyce Pinto Kinnigoli and Lawrence Baptist Jeppu.

Academy member Ronald Crasta compered the programme and proposed the vote of thanks. Academy members Samarth Bhat and Naveen Lobo were also present.
