Mangaluru, Aug 2: Team India fighter Nikhil Shetty from Mangaluru has brought laurels to the city by securing the silver medal at the GAMMA Asian Championship 2026 held in Malaysia.

Competing against some of Asia’s top amateur MMA athletes, Nikhil delivered impressive performances throughout the championship and finished as the runner-up in the 74.9 kg weight category.

Nikhil’s achievement marks a significant milestone in his amateur MMA career and highlights the growing presence of Indian fighters on the international stage.

He trains under coach Kaushik Boloor and is supported by his teammates Mohith Karkera, Sudeep Kottary and Karthik Putran. Nikhil is currently involved in teaching and training at Kasharp Fitness and The Den.

His success at the GAMMA Asian Championship has earned recognition for Mangaluru’s MMA community and inspired aspiring combat sports athletes in the region.
