Mangaluru, Aug 1: The ICYM Cordel Unit successfully organised ‘Gadyanth Udkana 2026’, a parish sports and games event for children, youth, adults, married couples, and senior citizens of Cordel Parish on August 2.

The programme began with various games including bombing the city, running race, relay race (4×100 m), sack race, bottle the water, food relay, mystery lock, balloon race, cup balance, reverse run, lemon spoon race, three-legged race, povli vodche, volleyball, and tug of war.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by Fr Loyd Rohan D’Souza as the chief guest, along with Ruth Castelino, vice president, Anil D’Sa, secretary of the Parish Pastoral Council, and the Bethany Sisters. The programme was compered by Isha Jovita Saldanha. The welcome address was delivered by Jovita D’Souza, followed by the wisdom of words by Fr Loyd Rohan D’Souza. The event was officially inaugurated through the unveiling of the programme poster by the dignitaries.

The games were efficiently coordinated by Pradeep Misquith, while the volleyball tournament was conducted by Naveen Mascarenhas and the tug of war competition by Ivan D’Cunha. The officials responsible for the smooth conduct of the games were Manjunath and Pradeep.

The valedictory programme was compered by Sweedal Angelica D’Souza. Sherwin Hance D’Souza, sports secretary of ICYM Cordel Unit, welcomed the gathering, while the wisdom of words was delivered by Fr Clifford Fernandes. The vote of thanks was proposed by Jayden Joseph D’Cunha, president of ICYM Cordel Unit. Parishioner those who have supported to happen this successful event were honoured for their dedicated service.

The programme concluded with the prize distribution ceremony, where Mother Teresa Ward emerged as the overall champions, while Our Lady of Pompei Ward secured the runners-up championship. The event was a grand success, promoting unity, sportsmanship, and fellowship among the parishioners of Cordel Parish.
