Chennai, Aug 5: The makers of actor K. Manikandan's upcoming action drama on Wednesday unveiled the title of the film as 'Makkal Kaavalan' and released its first-look poster, offering a glimpse of the much-awaited project.
The film marks the feature directorial debut of Santhosh Kumar and is jointly produced by Pa. Ranjith's Neelam Studios and Birla Studios.
Actor Vijay Sethupathi, who released the first-look poster along with several other celebrities, extended his wishes to the team and praised Manikandan for consistently choosing unique scripts. He said the film appeared to be another special project and expressed eagerness to watch the actor in the new role.
The announcement has generated considerable buzz, with Manikandan riding high on the success of his previous films Good Night, Lover and Kudumbasthan, which established him as one of Tamil cinema's most sought-after actors.
Makkal Kaavalan will see Manikandan headlining a full-fledged action drama for the first time. Written and directed by Santhosh Kumar, the film follows the journey of a simple man determined to live with dignity until a corrupt system forces him to choose between surrender and resistance. His personal struggle gradually transforms into a larger movement, compelling him to become a leader and protector of the people.
The cast includes Vaagai Chandrasekar, A. Venkatesh, R.K. Vijaymurugan, Shanmugam Muthusamy, Sabumon, Unni Maya, Divya Sripada, Jenson Dhivakar, Lallu, Gemini Mani and Raghu.
The technical crew features cinematographer Pratheepan Selvaratnam, editor Arul Moses, production designer Pappanadu C. Uthayakumar, stunt choreographer Don Ashok, sound designer Anthony Jayaruban, costume designer Sureshkumar, makeup artist Ramachandran and music composer Nivas K. Prasanna.
Birla Studios' Sunil Chainani described Makkal Kaavalan as a powerful and emotionally engaging film, saying the production house was delighted to continue its collaboration with Neelam Studios after Bison Kaalamaadan. He said the studio remained committed to supporting original, filmmaker-driven stories.
Pa. Ranjith and Aditi Anand of Neelam Studios said they were excited to introduce Santhosh Kumar as a feature filmmaker and expressed confidence that the film, anchored by Manikandan's performance, would connect with audiences.
Manikandan said the film is a unique action drama rooted in cultural and ethnic conflicts. He noted that the script's originality and relevance immediately drew him to the project and described it as a dream venture for the entire team.
Director Santhosh Kumar said the story was inspired by real-life experiences and explores power hierarchies, social inequality and the struggles of an honest man trying to uphold his integrity within a flawed system. He thanked Neelam Studios and Birla Studios for backing his directorial debut.
