Udupi, Aug 6: Deep-sea fishing operations resumed at Malpe harbour on Wednesday after sea conditions returned to normal, with around 15 deep-sea trawlers operated by Tamil Nadu fishermen setting sail.
Although the fishing season had officially commenced, no boats ventured into the sea due to cyclone warnings issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
With the weather improving and the sea becoming calmer, more fishing vessels are expected to resume operations in the coming days.
Karunakara Salian, president of the Deep-Sea Trawl Boat Fishermen's Association, said that most of the boats are likely to head out for fishing within the next week if favourable weather conditions continue.
