Mumbai, Aug 9: Film director Shakeel Noorani, 73, has been arrested for allegedly raping a 33-year-old actor at his residence in Mumbai's Malwani, police said.
According to the complaint, Noorani allegedly called the actor to his house on the pretext of discussing an upcoming film. He allegedly drugged and sexually assaulted her before threatening her, the complaint stated.
Following the complaint, police arrested Noorani and produced him before the Borivali Holiday Court. The court remanded him to police custody till August 12.
Noorani is known for writing, producing and directing films including Bade Dilwala (1999) and Joru Ka Ghulam (2000).
Police are continuing their investigation into the allegations.
