Film director Shakeel Noorani arrested over rape allegation

Mumbai, Aug 10: Film director Shakeel Noorani, 73, has been arrested for allegedly raping a 33-year-old actor in Mumbai, police said.

According to the police complaint, Noorani allegedly lured the actor to his residence in Malwani on the pretext of discussing an upcoming film and sexually assaulted her.

The complaint further alleges that Noorani drugged the actor and threatened her following the alleged assault.

Noorani was produced before the Borivali Holiday Court and has been remanded in police custody until August 12.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident and are recording statements as part of the probe.

Noorani is known for writing, producing and directing Hindi films, including Bade Dilwala (1999) and Joru Ka Ghulam (2000).

The allegations against Noorani are yet to be established in court.
