Palghar, Aug 11: Two earthquakes of magnitude 3.4 struck Maharashtra’s Palghar district within an hour on Monday night, causing anxiety among residents but leaving no casualties or property damage, officials said.
According to the district information office, the first tremor was recorded at 10.04 pm, followed by another earthquake of the same magnitude at 11 pm.
District Disaster Management Cell chief Vivekanand Kadam said both tremors occurred at a depth of 5 km in Jawhar taluka.
The successive tremors triggered concern among residents in the area. However, officials confirmed that there was no loss of life or structural damage in the district.
Local authorities and disaster management teams were closely monitoring the situation, Kadam said.
Palghar, located around 100 km from Mumbai, had also experienced three tremors last month.
