Mangaluru, Aug 12: A special awareness session on ‘BMJ Manuscript Submission’ was conducted at K S Hegde Medical Academy (KSHEMA), with the objective of strengthening research and publication practices among doctors, faculty members and consultants.

Pooja Dabral, customer engagement manager, BMJ along with Anand from the BMJ Group , conducted an informative session covering the wide range of journals under the BMJ umbrella and the various stages involved in submitting a research article. They also explained the process by which eligible authors can avail waivers on Article Processing Charges (APCs), thereby facilitating open-access publication of quality research.

Dr Shreyas Shetty, consultant orthopaedic surgeon & alumnus of KSHEMA also addressed the gathering and shared his personal experience with research and publication during his postgraduate training at the institution.

Dr Shetty emphasised that research should be an integral part of postgraduate medical education, not merely an academic requirement.

Sharing his own experience with BMJ, Dr Shetty spoke about his journey as a postgraduate student at KSHEMA and how his research work and subsequent publications in BMJ case reports had provided valuable academic insights. He further highlighted that his work had subsequently been cited by two eminent international journals, demonstrating the wider impact and recognition obtained by research and publications.

The interactive session enabled the participating doctors to gain valuable knowledge about the research and publication opportunities available through the BMJ Group.
