Pavoor SSLC students get career, exam prep tips at Mangalore University workshop

Media Release

Mangaluru, Aug 12: Nehru Chinthana Kendra, Mangalore University, organised a special workshop on ‘Career Guidance and Examination Preparation’ for SSLC students at Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat Government High School, Pavoor, to help students approach their examinations with greater confidence, clarity and preparedness.

The programme was inaugurated by Satish Bhat Bilinele, retired teacher, Ramakunja Aided High School, Uppinangady, who also served as the resource person.

Bhat conducted an engaging and interactive session focusing on two important aspects of a student’s journey — career awareness and SSLC examination preparation. He introduced students to various career opportunities and helped them understand the possibilities available to them in shaping their future. He then linked these aspirations with the immediate need to prepare effectively for the SSLC examination.

Through interaction with the students, he encouraged them to identify difficulties that could affect their studies, including lack of memory, poor concentration, self-doubt, shyness, fear and examination tension, difficulty speaking before an audience, inferiority complex, insecurity, sensitivity, distractions and unwanted thoughts.

He explained that these challenges could be overcome through awareness, practice and the right strategies. He shared practical techniques to improve concentration, build confidence and manage examination-related fear and tension. He also introduced activity-based memory techniques and simple methods to improve memorisation and recall, making the session lively and meaningful.

A distinctive feature of the session was Bhat’s approach of encouraging students to first recognise their own difficulties and then find ways to overcome them. By asking students whether they faced such challenges themselves, he created an open and comfortable environment for them to understand and address their concerns.

The session emphasised that success in the SSLC examination is not merely about marks, but also about developing confidence, concentration, mental preparedness and a positive approach towards the future. The combination of career guidance and examination preparation helped students understand how their present efforts can contribute to building their future.

Sharmila, Headmistress, Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat Government High School, Pavoor, welcomed the guests and introduced them to the gathering. Dr Nayana Krishnapura, Research Assistant, Nehru Chinthana Kendra, Mangalore University, explained the purpose and objectives of the initiative. Vidya proposed the vote of thanks.

The workshop reflected the commitment of Nehru Chinthana Kendra, Mangalore University, to reaching out to government school students through meaningful educational, motivational and career-oriented programmes.
