Mangaluru, Aug 16: The 80th Independence Day was celebrated in a distinct and meaningful manner at the Madoor government school.

Following the flag hoisting ceremony, students and parents actively participated in a cleanliness drive to clear the school premises. Later, they partook in an 'Aatidonji Koota' programme, enjoying a community feast featuring special Ashadha month delicacies prepared and brought from their homes.

School development and monitoring committee (SDMC) president Bhaskar Madyar hoisted the tricolour.

Addressing the gathering, Kotekar town panchayat councillor Sujith Madoor emphasised that every task should be undertaken with a sense of patriotism. "Special occasions like birthdays should be celebrated by engaging in activities like planting saplings, which complements our love for the country. To build a magnificent India, all citizens must unite and contribute to the nation's development," Sujith said.

The true essence of Independence Day was realised at the school as parents of all students harmoniously joined hands to clean the school grounds. Everyone enthusiastically participated in various games organised for the parents. Promoting communal harmony, parents from all religious backgrounds engaged in weaving coconut fronds together. By sharing the diverse dishes brought from their homes, they spread a strong message of unity and coexistence, making the Independence Day celebration truly special.

School welfare committee president Rashid Madoor, honorary president Aziz Madoor, general secretary Purushotham Gatti, SDMC vice-president Zohra, member Farzana, and CRP Sujatha were present.

Headmistress Pushpa welcomed the gathering. Jeevitha compered the programme, and Nisha proposed a vote of thanks.
