Lucknow, Aug 18: BJP National general secretary Vinod Tawde was on Tuesday appointed the party’s in-charge for Uttar Pradesh as the BJP steps up its organisational preparations for the crucial 2027 Assembly elections.
Jagdish Ishwarbhai Patel has been appointed as the party’s co-in-charge for Uttar Pradesh.
The appointments come as the BJP focuses on strengthening its organisational network and fine-tuning its social and caste equations in the politically crucial state ahead of the Assembly polls.
The party has also been increasing the representation of non-Yadav Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and minority leaders from Uttar Pradesh in its national organisational structure as part of a broader strategy to consolidate its support base.
Tawde’s appointment assumes significance given his extensive organisational and electoral experience across several states, as well as his role in handling key assignments for the BJP and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
The BJP leadership has pointed to his experience in organisational management, alliance coordination and election strategy as key factors behind the decision to assign him responsibility for Uttar Pradesh.
Tawde served as the election in-charge for NDA presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu during the 2022 Presidential election. He coordinated meetings across states and worked with NDA allies to garner support for her candidature.
He was later entrusted with coordinating the NDA campaign for C.P. Radhakrishnan in the 2025 Vice-Presidential election, handling coordination with alliance partners and supporting parties.
His organisational responsibilities have also included Haryana, where he was appointed state in-charge in 2020 and played a key role in strengthening the BJP’s organisation.
Tawde was given charge of Bihar in 2022 and subsequently emerged as one of the BJP’s key strategists in the state. The party credited his strategic role in the political developments of 2023 that led to the replacement of the RJD-JD(U) government with an NDA government.
Under his organisational guidance, the NDA put up a strong performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Bihar and later registered a major victory in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.
With the 2027 Uttar Pradesh polls approaching, Tawde’s new assignment places him at the centre of the BJP’s efforts to strengthen its organisation and consolidate its electoral base in the state.
