The theft occurred at the residence of Shakeer, 55, who owns a textile shop. According to police, Shakeer and his family had remained at their shop until around 1.15 am on Friday due to the Onam rush.

The stolen jewellery comprised seven gold chains, two necklaces, two anklets, two bracelets, five bangles and five pairs of rings. The ornaments weighed around 47 sovereigns and were valued at approximately Rs 55 lakh, police said.

The jewellery had reportedly been purchased for Shakeer's daughter, whose engagement was held recently.
