Rahul Gandhi stages protest at police station, seeks FIR over CJP marcher’s alleged pellet injuries

New Delhi, Aug 21: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Friday visited the Parliament Street Police Station along with 19-year-old Sahil Lochab, who allegedly sustained pellet gun injuries during the ‘Chalo Sansad’ march organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on July 20.

Rahul Gandhi accompanied Sahil after the latter alleged that the Delhi Police had refused to register an FIR based on his complaint regarding the alleged injuries. The Congress leader sought details from the police regarding the action taken on the complaint.

Rahul and Sahil had initially visited the Connaught Place Police Station before approaching the DCP office at the Parliament Street Police Station. Following the alleged failure to register an FIR, Rahul Gandhi staged a dharna outside the police station along with Sahil.

The Congress alleged that despite Sahil submitting a written complaint with the assistance of his lawyers, police officials did not provide an investigating officer number or register an FIR. The party further claimed that Sahil again sought an acknowledgement on August 17 through email and phone but received no response.

Rahul Gandhi had earlier raised allegations of pellet gun use against CJP protesters during a press conference on July 24, displaying Sahil’s injuries and demanding accountability. The government had denied the allegations.

The Congress leader had subsequently written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah seeking action over what he described as a “barbaric assault” on protesters.

The party has also alleged that Sahil was not provided with a Medico Legal Case report and claimed that his repeated requests for registration of an FIR were ignored.

During Friday’s protest, the Congress reiterated its demand for an FIR and an investigation into the alleged use of pellet guns during the July 20 march.
