Udupi, Mar 27: The District Athletic Association will be organizing the ‘Syndicate Bank Udupi Half Marathon–2012’ on Sunday April 1. Syndicate Bank has been the sponsor of the marathon for five consecutive years. Manipal University is the co-sponsor.
The 21 km marathon will begin and conclude at Syndicate Bank head office, Manipal, and is open to both men and women.
Cash prizes of Rs 50,000, Rs 25,000, and Rs 15,000 will be given for first, second, and third places respectively, in the men’s and women’s category each. Cash prizes and certificates will be presented to those coming in up to the 10th place. No changes in age limits as in the past.
A 3 km race will be held for both boys and girls between the age of 14 and 17 on Sunday morning. The winner will be presented a cash prize of Rs 3,000 with the second prize being Rs 2,000 and third prize being Rs 1,000. Cash prize and certificates will also be given to those coming in up to the 10th place. This race is restricted to natives of Udupi district.
A 10 km race will be held for both boys and girls up to the age of 20 years, exclusively for the natives of Udupi district. The first prize will be Rs 5,000, second prize Rs 2,500, and third prize Rs 1,500. Cash prizes and certificates will be presented to those coming in fourth to tenth.
A 3 km race for both men and women between the age group of 35 to 59 will also be held. The first prize will be Rs 3,000, second prize Rs 2,000, and third prize Rs 1,000. Cash prizes and certificates will be presented to those coming in from fourth to sixth.
Certificates will be issued to all those who complete the marathon. Over 2,000 athletes are expected to participate in the marathon.
