New Delhi, Aug 24: Two MLAs were among six people who sustained minor injuries after a car lost control and rammed an Innova SUV near the busy ITO intersection in central Delhi on Sunday night.
According to police, the accident occurred at around 9.30 pm near the PWD office. Kirari MLA Anil Jha and Karnataka MLA Abhay Patel were travelling in the Innova, which was displaying a ‘Karnataka Government’ board, when it was hit by a Swift car.
The Swift, driven by 32-year-old Ashutosh Pandey, was travelling from Laxmi Nagar towards ITO with his wife and two minor children. Police said the vehicle lost control after a CNG cylinder reportedly burst. The car first hit a divider near the PWD office, crossed a railing and then collided with the Innova coming from the opposite direction.

All six occupants of the two vehicles suffered minor injuries and were rushed to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital for treatment. Their condition was reported to be stable.
The impact left the Swift badly mangled, while the front portion of the Innova was also damaged. Visuals from the scene showed the airbags of the vehicles had deployed following the collision.
Police personnel and passersby immediately rushed to the spot after the accident. A team from the IP Estate Police Station reached the location after receiving information and found the two damaged vehicles.
The fire brigade was also called to the scene, following which the vehicles were removed from the road. Traffic movement at the ITO crossing was disrupted for some time following the crash.
Police have launched an investigation into the accident. Officials are examining the circumstances that led to the cylinder burst and are also looking into the speed of the Swift at the time of the accident.
