Mangalore, Mar 27: In a dramatic case of theft, a gang barged into a house at Sunkadakatte near Bajpe here on Tuesday March 27 and made away with gold worth lacs of rupees.

What makes the incident dramatic is that the thieves first tied up a woman who was in the house and then went about their task.

The theft occured at the house of Saroja Salian, who was not at home at the time of the incident. Only her 25-year-old niece Geeta was at home.

The thieves gained entry into the house from the back door and tied up Geeta with a saree and gagged her. Geeta struggled hard against the men, but in vain. They then opened the cupboards in the house, ransacked the place and took away some 50 sovereigns of gold worth Rs 10 lac.

Meantime, Geeta managed to free herself but it was too late as the thieves fled by then. She, however, called the neighbours who in turn informed Saroja and the police.

Police told Daijiworld that there were four men, who spoke in Malayalam. They were not masked, but were strangers as Geeta could not recognise them. Luckily, they left her unharmed.

Bajpe police have registered a case and are investigating.

Undevided DK dist comprising Udupi and Mangalore by and large known for peaceful living since ages and here house holds are scatered miles together with large gaps in between.Yet there was no incidence of docoity, theft, loot etc.,Alas passage of time development witnessed in various fields thrown open enromous job oppertunities resulting influx of work force from outside state. In Mangalore and surrounding araes now there are a number of persons who have come from outside have taken shelter who are mainly responsible for all theft/criminal activities here making isolated house holds as their target.

Incidentally our people are innocent and easily fall prey to these unscruplous elements.
The incidencse of these type of activities have on the rise especially after the present BJP government came to power.Police force has become so inactive that even in city thrashing innocents and killing has become order of the day.Now anybody from any political party can walk into police HQ and thawrt any attempt to nab/action taken on their'nearest and dearest' by police. This is a new development after DVS assuming power as CM.Peoples security itself has become vulnerable in the state.God only save our people.

Please use cash and gold to the minimum and rest keep them in the bank. Don't disclose your wealth to outsiders.Nowadays, robbers have increased everywhere. Please keep the doors closed all the time. Never let strangers to enter the house. Never buy things from the people who come to sell the things in the houses. Some of them come to do the survey of the house and lateron they will come and rob the house.

This seems to be some insider job. As Dinesh Poojary states in his comments Mallus may be involved as there has be been many cases as these guys are jobless and out of work in the Gulf and even otherwise. Geeta you are lucky to be alive as they could have done anything.

But the strange part is how come such a large amount of gold and cash was kept in the house. There are so many lockers available in the banks for the safety. I feel something is fishy and may be a planned robbery. The police should investigate and find out who is right and who is wrong.

But whoever stole the ornaments and cash should be be caught and paraded throughout Mangalore without a mask on their head as no one can do such a crime. It may be a Mallu or from any other state country. Justice should be done and we want the whole of Mangalore and Karnataka to be safe.

Some people who knew about the hoarded gold have done this burglary! How naive of the owners to keep 10 lacs worth of gold in the house? Thank God nobody was injured or killed in this as these desperadoes, in case of resistance, can go to any extent to get hold of the booty!!! Kindly do not publish and exhibit your jewelry anymore and invite trouble........those times are over!!!

Fortnately the woman was not harmed but the police should make every effort to get these 4 criminals as otherwise, they will loot other houses as well.Police should also keep a close vigil on all the jewellery shops as those criminals are likely to sell the gold.

The police instead of taking the evidence from the crime spot is allowing the public to get inside the house. There are so many things lying which should enable the police to pick the finger prints and evidence which can be used to nab the thieves. This is nothing but utter negligence on the part of the police.

It is not so easy for outsiders to rob in the day time in a unknown place. I smell some foul play.

'Huttu Guna Betta Hathidharu Bidadhoo'. Wherever they go their attitude will never change. First they come in search of labor job & pretend to be very very sincere and honest. Then they show their true color. Their nature is well known to those who have spent few years in Gulf with these people. Beware Mangaloreans....keep distance with these people.
